51. How much Internet data can a ZapperBox use? Can it cause me to exceed my Internet data usage caps?

Watching YouTube and Broadband IP (BIP) channels that stream over the Internet consumes the most data. We denote BIP channels with an ‘i’ suffix, like 12.1i. BIP channels are also called BEST, Broadcast Enabled Streaming TV, channels.

A 1080p BIP channel can use about 2.2 GBytes/hour. Watching YouTube channels can also consume significant data and cause you to exceed your Internet data caps. Beyond these the ZapperBox uses the following data:

  1. App updates – 20 Mbytes
  2. AOSP updates – 500 Mbytes
  3. Guide data in a small market – 12 Mbytes/month
  4. Guide data in a major market like NYC – 225 Mbytes/month

Sinclair broadcasts the T2 and PBTV BEST channels at the following data rates simultaneously and the receiver picks the best suited data rate:

  • HEVC 1920x1080, 8mbps, 60fps
  • HEVC 1280x720, 4mbps, 60fps
  • HEVC 960x540, 1mbps, 60fps
