Last updated on Sep 29, 2023 at 1pm CT.

The current app version is v2.1.1 and OS version is 230821. If you are already using OS 230821, this update will take only a minute to install. A full OS update will take about 5-7 minutes to download and install. Please see a video of the OS update process at this link.

OS and app versions are listed on the About->Device Info Screen.

Current cautions:

DVR beta:
   * DVR requires minimum 128GB of added storage (sold separately).
   * DVR features are currently in beta. We will keep releasing frequent updates as usual.
   * First time DVR use will force a reformat of the storage device. DVR will not work without a reformat.
   * Enhanced DVR features require a subscription for 14-day guide data.
   * HDDs require external power. SSDs, Flash drives and microSD cards do not. See FAQ #22.
   * microSD cards, Flash drives and SSDs are not recommended unless they use SLC Flash or the pause buffer is disabled. See Blog post about this.

Content Security (aka DRM/encrypted channels):
   * v2.2 release of content security support will require an Internet connection.
   * Content security without an Internet connection (unconnected mode) will be supported around December 2023.
   * v2.2 release will not support recording and playback of secure content, that is planned for v2.3.
   * v2.2 will require an update to OS 230821. This will take about 5-7 minutes to install.
   * Content security upgrades will be done via a software update without the need for a hardware swap.

v1.1.2 + OS 230322, released March 28, 2023

  • This OS release fixes an issue first seen in Buffalo, NY that caused 1080i content carried over ATSC 3.0 to not play. Two ATSC 3.0 stations in Buffalo (WGRZ 2.1 and WIVB 4.1) were not working on ZapperBox due to this issue. While this is legal, it is not a recommended practice.

OS v1205, released Dec 7, 2022

  • The standby mode known issue has been fixed. In OS 0920 if a device was placed into standby mode by pressing the red power button on the remote, sometimes HDMI output got disabled when the power button was pressed to start using the device again. The workaround was to not put the device into standby and turn the TV off. If the HDMI output got disabled, power cycling the box fixed the issue
  • Fix ATSC 1.0 interlaced content artifacts. Sometimes ATSC 1.0 interlaced content like 1080i or 480i would start showing jagged edges.
