Quad Tuner
- The quad tuner requires a mandatory subscription of $50/year. This is unlike the optional subscription offered for dual or single tuner devices that support manual recordings and pause live TV without a subscription. The quad tuner device will not work without the mandatory subscription. You will only be able to watch live TV on an HDMI cable connected TV if your quad tuner does not have an active subscription.
- The whole-home subscription required for the quad tuner will cover all ZapperBox devices in your home.
- Currently in some markets (not all) the quad tuner is limited to tuning three out of four tuners to ATSC 3.0 channels and one tuner to an ATSC 1.0 channel. We believe that this is a software issue and will be solved soon.
Whole-Home DVR
- Whole-Home DVR features require a 14-day guide data subscription.
- Sharing tuners between devices for Live TV does not require a subscription.
- The current release v3.3+ supports sharing recordings. It also supports viewing Live TV on Zapper Mini. Viewing live TV on devices with tuners, from other devices with tuners, will be added in an upcoming release.
- The current release supports the following simultaneous activities: 1 or 2 recordings, one local playback, and one remote playback.
- The current UI supports a maximum of 4 ZapperBox devices in the home. This limit will be increased with a future software update.
- The current release does not support scheduling recordings on remote devices. This will be added with a software update.
- The current release does not support remote viewing of encrypted channels. This is planned for the v4.0 release.
DVR
- DVR requires minimum 128GB of added storage (sold separately but built into the quad tuner).
- First time DVR use will force a reformat of the storage device. DVR will not work without a reformat.
- Enhanced DVR features for the dual and single tuner devices require a subscription for 14-day guide data. See FAQ #8.
- HDDs require external power. SSDs, Flash drives and microSD cards do not. See FAQ #22.
- Use of the 60-minute pause buffer is not recommended with microSD cards and Flash drives. It is okay to use with SSDs and HDDs. See Blog posts about this topic.
- DVR for broadband channels will be supported in a future release.
Content Security (aka DRM/encrypted channels)
- An Internet connection is required for the current version of content security software.
- Content security without an Internet connection (offline DRM) will be supported in an upcoming release.
- Email us at support@zapperbox.com if content security is not enabled on your ZapperBox.
