The NFL is still in full swing with the noon match-up on FOX having the Cowboys at the Panthers, Jets at Jaguars, or Commanders at the Saints. CBS noon games are Chiefs at the Browns or Dolphins at the Texans.

The 3:25 slate of FOX games have the Bengals at Titans, Buccaneers at Chargers, or Steelers at the Eagles which is probably the best game of the weekend.

PBS is known for their masterful work in the documentary category. On PBS you can watch documentaries like The Barefoot Artist, focusing on the life and work of Lily Yeh, a Chinese-born artist known for her community-based art initiatives. The documentary is directed by Daniel Traub and Glenn Holsten, and the film weaves together two main narratives: Lily Yeh's artistic journey and her personal quest to heal familial wounds. The show features an incredibly unique format and aims to bring people from diverse backgrounds together through the medium of storytelling.

And no piece about PBS would be complete without talking about the PBS crown jewel, Masterpiece Theater. The series continues to be a staple of PBS programming, showcasing acclaimed dramas and adaptations. Upcoming episodes include "Howards End" and "Wolf Hall," with specific air dates scheduled for November 24 and December 1, respectively. We hope you recorded the episodes on November 24. The NBC 9:30 ET night cap features the iconic USC Trojans against the UCLA Bruins in the Rose Bowl. This iconic match-up has moved from the PAC-12 to the Big Ten this year, but it’s still one of the country’s best rivalries no matter what the records are.

To be honest, this week’s NFL schedule features a lot of games between conference leaders and the cellar-dwellers. But if you like upsets, there could be plenty this weekend! The noon ET CBS game is the 9-1 Chiefs suffering their first loss last week against the 3-7 Panthers. FOX’s noon ET game is the historic matchup between the 8-2 Vikings against the 4-6 Bears who were narrowly defeated by the Packers last week by having their game-winning field goal blocked. Can they come off the mat and beat their biggest rival?

The 3:25  ET FOX matchup is the 49ers against the 7-3 Packers. The 49ers are much better than their record and I’m looking for them to come out and give the Packers all they want at Lambeau field.

The NBC 7:20 ET night game is the 8-2 Eagles against the 5-5 LA Rams. The Rams have been on a hot streak and this game could be much closer than you’d expect – so set your ZapperBox on record and look for an upset here!

NBC at 2:30 pm ET on Saturday Virginia travels to #10 Notre Dame with playoff implications on the line. 6:30pm on NBC has #1 ranked Oregon putting their undefeated record on the line against the Wisconsin Badgers who are hungry for a marquee win. 7pm Saturday on FOX features what may be the “sneaky best” game of the weekend with a 2 loss Cincinnati team coming into Jack Trice Stadium to face the 2-loss Iowa State Cyclones who are looking to right the ship after starting a remarkable 7-0.

What's on Antenna - Enjoy Free FOX Entertainment

Last week I went over the reasons that Netflix's seemingly endless possibilities of streaming options just force you to get lost in a sea of movies and TVs that leads to mindless doomscrolling.

For this reason, antenna TV is the way to go, with quick and easy options for entertainment that's right at your fingertips. Not only does antenna TV provide a more curated selection of content, but it also offers a sense of structure and familiarity that many viewers find comforting in today's overwhelming media landscape.

One of the many channels that you can surf on your antenna TV is FOX. FOX is great because it has such a wide variety of entertainment from different genres, but first it’s important to distinguish FOX from FOX News, which isn’t available on antenna TV. While FOX News can only be watched over cable, you can watch the regular FOX broadcast channel on your antenna TV free of additional charges or paywalls.

If you’re looking for the latest in the entertainment industry and pop culture, you can watch TMZ on FOX, based on the popular website of the same name. TMZ is geared towards daily updates on Hollywood and its’ celebrities. Along a similar vein, The Jennifer Hudson show is also on FOX, offering a fresh take on daytime talk shows. Hosted by the Oscar and Grammy-winning Jennifer Hudson, the show features celebrity interviews, musical performances, and topical discussions on various subjects, providing viewers with an engaging and entertaining daytime viewing option, while also keeping you updated on the current happenings in the entertainment world.

For those looking to expand their culinary expertise, MasterChef is also on FOX, where amateur chefs compete for a grand prize of $250,000 and, of course, the title of MasterChef. The show is hosted by culinary icon Gordon Ramsay alongside Aaron Sanchez and Joe Bastianich, and features a plethora of challenges that test the contestants’ skills and creativity.

FOX also offers more than reality television, competition shows, and news, so if you’re looking for a bit of comedic relief, the classic animated series The Simpsons continues to air on FOX. This long-running show, created by Matt Groening, first premiered in 1989 and has become a cultural phenomenon, satirizing American life through the misadventures of the Simpson family in the fictional town of Springfield. With its sharp humor and social commentary, The Simpsons has not only entertained audiences for decades but has also influenced the landscape of animated television and comedy.

FOX is the perfect channel to rely on when you’re looking for a variety of genres to choose between, without getting lost in the countless streaming options, like you would on Netflix. Your antenna TV has so many options, while keeping it concise enough to enjoy the shows available. Err on the side of simplicity with your ZapperBox, where you can watch FOX any time you’re craving entertainment that spans from current events updates and cooking shows to classic and beloved comedies. With FOX delivering something for everyone, on your antenna TV you’ll never run out of engaging content to enjoy.

And, remember, you can always set your DVR to record your favorite series from TMZ, to The Jennifer Hudson Show, The Simpsons, and MasterChef so that you can binge watch when you have time and skip the commercials.

What's On Antenna - College Football is heading down the home

Friday night at 8pm ET on FOX the Iowa Hawkeyes will visit UCLA. This match-up seemed like a sleeper a few weeks ago, but the Iowa offense has been transformed with Brendon Sullivan at QB and UCLA has been better with a big win over Nebraska last week.

Saturday at 2:30 ET the defending champion Michigan Wolverines roll into Indiana to play the surprising and undefeated Indiana Hoosiers. Many think Indiana is vulnerable and we’ll see if their high-powered offense can continue to put up enough points to beat Michigan.

The 3pm ET game on FOX features Big XII contenders Texas Tech coming off giving Iowa State their first defeat of the season against the 1 conference loss Colorado Buffaloes. Can Texas Tech continue their momentum or will they fade late against the Buffaloes?

The 6:30pm ET nightcap on NBC is a under-performing Florida State team against Notre Dame who is driving toward a CFP playoff spot. On ABC #11 Alabama will be taking on #14 LSU in a big SEC match-up.

Week 10 of NFL football 1pm ET on CBS features the 6-2 Pittsburgh Steelers  against the 7-2 Washington Red…I mean…Commanders. The Commanders have been special this year and it should be a great test for them this week. The 4:25 ET CBS game features a big conference match-up between the Eagles and the Cowboys. In what might be the best game of the weekend on Sunday 8:20PM ET on NBC the 7-1 Lions face the 6-3 Texans – both these teams are playing well and it’s shaping up to be a great game!

What's On Antenna - World Series comeback?

The Dodgers lead the Yankees 3-0 and with 1 more win, they become World Series Champions!

But never count out the Yankees – games 4 & 5 are in New York on October 29 & 30. At the time of this writing, it’s unclear whether games 6 & 7 will be necessary – but if they are – be sure to set your ZapperBox to record Friday and Saturday at 8pm eastern time on FOX.

If these games are played, you could be witness to one of the greatest comebacks in World Series history!

What's On Antenna - What's with streaming?

In my past newsletters, I’ve made it a point to circulate around a few channels on antenna TV to inform you of all the shows you can watch with no additional costs, paywalls, or streaming networks. Now, while I will be sure to go into more channels on your ZapperBox that you can peruse and find countless entertaining shows on such as ABC, NBC, and PBS kids, this week I want to take a break from the channel overviews and discuss why streaming services like Netflix and Max might not be everything they’re built up to be.

I find that I log into the streaming app excited to find a movie to watch, only to be overwhelmed with the sheer number of options and end up closing the app due to the overwhelming number of shows and movies available. I’m sure you’ve experienced this feeling of getting lost in the slew of streaming options as well. Having unlimited choice on platforms like Netflix will do you more harm than good, proving that the most effective and efficient way to find something you’d like to watch is on your grid guide, which you can find on your antenna TV.

On your grid guide, you can easily browse current shows and upcoming programming across multiple channels in a simple, organized format. Why waste time scrolling and scrolling through the insane number of options on a streaming app, when you can find something entertaining with only a few clicks and swipes on your antenna TV? Why get lost in the prehistoric Netflix content when you can find the most up to date, current entertainment on broadcast TV? These streaming services have way too much content that no one on the planet could get through in one lifetime. For a more focused, streamlined selection, you can just as easily visit channels like ABC, NBC, CBS, and Fox on your antenna TV and find a show or movie to settle on before you even sit down and press play.

Abbott Elementary is what everyone’s talking about right now as it continues its third season, but you can’t find that on Netflix. By watching the limited options on antenna tv, you can stay up to date with current culture and join in on conversations about popular shows airing right now. As the holidays are coming up, you will have something current to talk about from your time perusing NBC, instead of bringing up a tv show from eons ago that no one has ever heard of, which can only be watched on Max.

In short, streaming apps just simply have too much to sift through. On your antenna TV you can quickly find quality programming without the paradox of choice. Don’t get caught up in the mindless doomscrolling of streaming platforms with paywalls to find something entertaining. Use your antenna TV to access free, current content and stay connected to what’s popular on television right now. Or record all the shows you may want to watch in the future and build your own personalized library of shows that you own and never have to pay for.

What's On Antenna - 2024 World Series

This week’s sports issue leads off with the World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees!

This 100-year iconic match-up between baseball’s bluest of bloods promises to be as exciting as when names like DiMaggio, Rivera, and Jackson graced the game! The FOX lineup has all the games starting at 8pm ET on Friday, Saturday, Monday-Wednesday, Friday Nov 1 and Saturday Nov 2.

NCAA Football headliners feature #20 Illinois playing at #1 Oregon ad 2:30pm ET on CBS Saturday. We’ll find out if Illinois is for real if they can hang with the Ducks. Another great Big XII rivalry is at 2:30pm Saturday on FOX when the Texas Tech Red Raiders visit the TCU Horned Frogs just 2 years away from their National Championship appearance. NBC has a great night game at 6:30pm Saturday when #3 Penn State visits the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium. Can the Nittany Lions continue their march to the college football playoffs or can the Badgers derail their plans?

What's On Antenna - CBS's free of charge

This week I’d like to talk about the incredibly wide variety of TV shows that you can watch on CBS, free of charge, on your antenna TV.

There are a handful of dramas that will keep you engaged and coming back for more. The Young and the Restless, and The Bold and the Beautiful are two dramas that will have you on the edge of your seat. The Young and the Restless is a TV show focusing on the themes of rivalries, romances, hopes, and fears within the residents of the fictional town of Genoa City. The Bold and the Beautiful is another drama that circulates around the wealthy Forester family and their fashion empire, Forester Creations. You can watch and record both on your antenna TV DVR without paying any fees for streaming or subscriptions.

There are also quite a few CBS reality TV shows that you can indulge in on your antenna TV. After all, CBS popularized the reality TV genre with its “Survivor” show. Classics like Judge Judy and The Price is Right are perfect to watch with your family on a Sunday morning over a cup of coffee.

If you’re looking to catch up on the news, CBS has lots of it! CBS News, Sixty Minutes and Entertainment Tonight are all on CBS with antenna TV, perfect for whether you want to stay up to date with current affairs or know what’s going on in the entertainment industry.

After a long day at work, sometimes all we need is to watch a talk show and take our mind off of reality. CBS has that too! With talk shows like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, After Midnight, and The Drew Barrymore Show, you can catch them all on your antenna tv and watch your favorite celebrities answer questions you’ve been itching to know the answers to.

And don’t forget, with the ZapperBox DVR, you don’t have to tune in. You can record all the shows you want and watch them later, at your convenience, and skip the commercials you don’t care for.

What's On Antenna - ABC's New Line-Up

ABC is one of the most underrated channels on broadcast television. On your antenna TV, you can watch a plethora of unique and engaging shows on ABC that will keep you watching, even through the ads.

Dancing With the Stars, which streams live on ABC as well as on Disney+ and other streaming services, is one of the hottest shows to watch right now. Given the addition of two new professional dancers, Rylee Arnold and Ezra Soza, all eyes are on these new competitors as they fight to make a name for themselves on the esteemed show.

The recent “Soul Train” episode was notably the most watched and streamed episode of Dancing With the Stars in the history of the show, exemplifying what an electric season this is. This season’s stars include Olympic athletes Stephen Nederoscik and Ilona Maher, model Brooks Nader, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette stars Joey Graziadei and Jenn Tran, ex-con artist Anna Delvey, and Disney star Chandler Kinney, among others. This star-studded season is jam-packed with steamy showmances, disastrous attitudes, and buckets of unexpected talent.

The most recent episode went viral on social media, with fans outraged over guest judge Gene Simmons’ misogynistic comments and racially-biased scores, making contestants, professionals, and audience members alike incredibly uncomfortable. There have only been four episodes so far, but this season is already taking the entertainment world by storm, inciting meaningful conversations and bringing family and friends together to watch these stars become ballroom dancers.

You can catch new episodes of Dancing With the Stars every Tuesday at 8pm ET / 5pm PT on ABC, available on your antenna TV free of charge.

An exciting crossover during this season of Dancing with the Stars is that two of the contestants were stars back to back on the most recent seasons of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.

Also on ABC, a newer rendition of the Bachelor franchise, The Golden Bachelorette is airing on your antenna TV. The Golden Bachelorette centers around people over fifty who are looking for love. This spinoff of The Bachelor aims to present a more mature perspective on dating, focusing on deeper conversations and meaningful connections rather than the typical drama often seen in younger iterations of the franchise. Contestants are typically in their sixties or seventies, which allows for themes such as family involvement.

Joan Vassos, the star of the current season, has even visited the live shows of Dancing With the Stars to support her fellow ex-Bachelor/Bachelorettes. The Golden Bachelorette is yet another show on ABC that can be on your antenna TV watch list.

What's On Antenna - Non-Stop Sports Action!

Sports are in full swing with ZapperBox this time of year with playoff baseball, mid-season NCAA and NFL football, NBA pre-season, and media days for NCAA basketball season just around the corner! ZapperBox will be working overtime to provide you with the best sports of the season!

The baseball playoffs continue with possible game 5s Friday and Saturday on FOX as the Mets & Phillies, Padres & Dodgers, Tigers & Guardians, and Royals & Yankees square off to get to the division series.

College football continues with the biggest matchup of the weekend on ABC at 2:30 ET where #1 Texas plays Oklahoma in the Red River Shootout - what used to be a Big XII match-up is now an SEC match-up this year. At 3pm ET on FOX Saturday the surprisingly undefeated and 14th ranked BYU Cougars will play the Arizona Wildcats. Another key match0-up is at 6:30pm ET on NBC when the Ohio State Buckeyes face the Oregon Ducks. For me, the best match-up of the weekend is at 7pm on FOX Saturday when the 5-0 11th ranked Iowa State Cyclones travel to Morgantown to play a revived and ready West Virginia squad.

The action in the NFL continues Sunday with a noon ET matchup of the Washington Commanders playing the Baltimore Ravens in what could be a preview of a Super Bowl match-up - both teams are playing well and Washington has found their quarterback of the future.

What's On Antenna - Championship Implications on the Line

Week 5 of college football kicks off on 7pm EST Friday night on FOX as the defending national runner-up Washington Huskies travels to the east coast to take on Rutgers.

Saturday starts with a pair of 11am EST games. ABC has Kentucky at #6 Ole Miss. Minnesota will look to rebound from a home loss to Iowa as they play at Michigan. The games heat up at 2:30pm EST as Wisconsin visits USC on CBS and Oklahoma visits Auburn on ABC. Maybe the best game at 2:30 EST will be FOX where Colorado is traveling to Florida to play UCF in a Big XII conference match-up – both teams are 1-0 and looking to join the Big XII conference championship conversation.

Make sure you set your ZapperBox on ABC at 6:30pm EST Saturday when Georgia visits Alabama in what could be the best game of the season – or even a preview of what could be the national championship game.

The NFL week 4 schedule features a noon EST kickoff between two storied rivals on CBS as the 3-0 Vikings visit the 2-1 Green Bay Packers – if the Packers can win, it will throw the NFC north into chaos. The Vikings can put some distance between them and the rest of the division with a victory at Lambeau field.

The 3:25pm EST game on CBS is in a similar situation where the undefeated Chiefs visit the 2-1 Los Angeles Chargers.

The 7:20pm EST night game on NBC features a 3-0 Bills team at the 1-2 Ravens. People are thinking the Ravens are better than their record and the Bills are worse than their record, so don’t be surprised if the Ravens win this one.

What's On Antenna - This Weekend's Must See Game

Major League Baseball playoffs are getting underway this week with the Division Series getting underway Saturday, October 5.

Game 1 between the NY Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies will be on FOX with 1st pitch at 4:08 pm ET.

NCAA Football week 6 starts with Michigan State traveling to Eugene to take on the Oregon Ducks Friday at 9pm ET on FOX. Another full slate of game Saturday when UCLA plays Penn State and Missouri plays Texas A&M on ABC – both games are noon ET Saturday.

My “ZapperBox Must See Game of the Weekend” pick this week is at 7:30pm ET on FOX Saturday when the 16th ranked Iowa State Cyclones take on the Baylor Bears at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. Iowa State looks to start 5-0 for the first time since 1980 while Baylor will be desperate for a win after two close Big XII losses.

NFL week 5 on Sunday features the Ravens who have been rolling since their week 1 loss against the Bengals who have gotten off to a rough start this year, but looking better with a win last week. Sunday night old rivels reunite when the Dallas Cowboys take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8:20pm ET on NBC.

Abbott Elementary, a mockumentary sitcom created by Quinta Brunson, premiered on ABC on December 7, 2021. Set in a struggling public school in Philadelphia, the show follows dedicated teachers, particularly the optimistic second-grade teacher Janine Teagues, as they navigate challenges in an underfunded education system. The show features a talented cast, including Tyler James Williams and Janelle James, and has received critical acclaim, winning multiple awards such as Primetime Emmys and Golden Globes. Actress Quinta Brunson came to Abbott Elementary from Buzzfeed, where fans remember her from iconic Buzzfeed YouTube videos.

What's On Antenna - 76th Annual Emmy Awards

Tired of TV pay walls? Try a free antenna TV, DVR and gateway.

I really hope you watched the 76th annual Emmy Awards on your ZapperBox. While most nominated shows are behind paywalls, there are a couple gems from the anticipated awards show that are available free over the air with an antenna.

There’s almost nothing that’s better than sketch comedy, and sometimes a good hearty belly laugh at a skit about something absolutely preposterous is just the thing we all need to unwind. Saturday Night Live is available on your antenna TV, and you can watch all the comedy skits, musical performances, and monologues you want on your Zapperbox.

After a long day, sometimes all we need is a few laughs shared with the celebrities we know and love. You can watch “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on your antenna TV, free of charge, and enjoy legendary talk show host Jimmy Kimmel as he brings humor and insightful commentary to the late-night landscape. This show earned a nomination for Outstanding Talk Series.

Steve Harvey was nominated for Best Host for a Reality or Competition program for his work on “Family Feud”, a well-known, nostalgic classic that sets family members against each other to guess audience survey results to popular questions.

Whether you need a laugh or want to have something in the background while you cook dinner, you can find “Family Feud” on your antenna tv to enjoy at any time of day.

What's On Antenna - Saturday Night Football on ABC

Upcoming Sporting Events to Record this week are listed below. Use the search option on your ZapperBox to find more sporting events. Use keywords like Football, Sports, etc.

Saturday Night Football on ABC at 7:30pm Eastern.

Fox College Football during primetime on Fox.

Big Ten Saturday Night/Notre Dame Football on NBC7:30pm Eastern.

CW Sports Programming will feature college football games, with specific times varying by region.

There’s a full slate of college & NFL football this weekend and you won’t want to miss the key games that give the winners a leg up on the CFP and NFL playoff spots! Your ZapperBox is going to have a busy weekend recording a lot of early season games with big-time impact on the CFB playoff race. Here are some key games you won’t want to miss!

CBS features a Saturday 2:30pm central time kick with new Big Ten member USC visiting the Michigan Wolverines at the Big House in a classic match-up of new conference peers.

NBC kicks off Saturday 2:30pm central with the Fighting Irish looking for a win at home against Miami (Ohio). For all of you thinking this is going to be a cakewalk, reference Notre Dame’s stunning loss to Northern Illinois just 2 weeks ago.

The NBC 6:30 central game features the Iowa Hawkeyes as they look to get back the Floyd of Rosedale trophy when they visit the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

FOX might have the best lineup this weekend as they kick off Friday at 7pm central with a surprising 3-0 Illinois team going to Memorial Stadum to play also-undefeated Nebraska. The action on FOX continues Saturday as two preseason Big XII favorites Utah and Oklahoma State match-up in Stillwater with the winner having the inside track to the Big XII championship game. Then at 7pm Baylor takes on Coach Prime’s Colorado Buffalo team who is sure to be fired up after their in-state rival victory last week at Colorado State.

The CBS and FOX slate of NFL games vary by region and week 3 has a few interesting matchups if they are showing in your area:

Houston Texans have looked good, and they are playing at the Minnesota Vikings at noon central on CBS.

The Philadelphia Eagles are playing New Orleans at noon Sunday on Fox. New Orleans wasn’t expected to be great, but last week they thrashed the conference favorite Cowboys.

NBC will be showing the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs against the Atlanta Falcons who recently beat Philadelphia on Monday night. Kansas City is “one toe out-of-bounds” and a 54-yard field goal away from being 0-2, so it will be interesting to see if they can cruise to victory or be involved in another nail-biter.

Ps: I have been promising myself that I will start writing this newsletter as soon as I get settled in The Big Apple. This month, I moved into an apartment on the Lower East Side and hooked up my ZapperBox with a tiny 5” Chaowei indoor antenna that sells on Amazon for around $20. What's On Antenna - The Rise of Mid TV

Navigating the Shifting Tides of Streaming TV: Is ZapperBox the Solution?

In the recent evolution of streaming television, we've witnessed a profound change in quality and content. Just a few years ago, groundbreaking shows were redefining the medium with their innovative storytelling and compelling characters. Fast forward to today, and the landscape looks quite different.

Enter the era of “Mid” TV.

Gone are the days of bold experimentation and boundary-pushing narratives. Instead, we find ourselves inundated with a deluge of well-produced yet ultimately forgettable shows. The promise of streaming once held the allure of diversity and originality, but now, familiarity reigns supreme.

But amidst this sea of sameness, there may be a beacon of hope: ZapperBox's over-the-air TV set-top box and DVR. Unlike traditional streaming services that require a monthly subscription, ZapperBox allows users to watch live TV and record their favorite shows without any additional fees.

This raises an important question: could this be a better model for watching television now?

On one hand, ZapperBox offers a return to simplicity and affordability. By providing access to live TV channels without the need for a subscription, it bypasses the clutter and complexity of traditional streaming services. For viewers tired of sifting through endless options and paying exorbitant monthly fees, ZapperBox presents a compelling alternative.

Additionally, ZapperBox taps into the nostalgia of traditional broadcast television, offering a curated selection of channels that harken back to a simpler time. For those longing for the days of appointment viewing and communal television experiences, ZapperBox provides a welcome return to form.

The rise of streaming television has fundamentally changed the way we consume content. For many viewers, the appeal of streaming lies in its flexibility and variety, allowing them to access a wide range of shows and movies whenever and wherever they want.

In the end, the debate over whether ZapperBox represents a better model for watching television now ultimately comes down to personal preference. For some, the simplicity and affordability of over-the-air TV may outweigh the drawbacks. For others, the convenience and flexibility of streaming services may still hold sway.
